Apple Inc (AAPL) continues to dominate the "smart" mobile phone market with its iPhone line and iOS devices, but rival operating system Android is slowly chipping away at Apple's market share, according to new numbers recently published.
As reported by PC Magazine this weekend, "The Android mobile operating system—specifically, smartphones running it—is continuing a steady climb in mobile web market share versus Apple's iOS-based devices. Quantcast has published new statistics that reveal that the Android increase in August is still more a trickle than a blow-out, but a gain for Google nevertheless.
Last month's statistics put iOS devices on top of the U.S. share of mobile web consumption at 56 percent to Android's 23."
