How can you tell if the stock market will go down or up tomorrow?
Of course, if you could forecast this with 100% certainty every day, you would soon become a very wealthy man or woman. You would just load up on an all-market or very diversified index fund ahead of an up stock market day, and then sell right before you "sensed" that the market was heading down... that's the simplest play, you could also make a quiet fortune every day by playing the appropriate options.
Sadly, none of us are market psychics. But you can get a feel for market sentiment by viewing the stock market futures... If the futures (based on futures contracts) are up ahead of market open, it could be an indicator that stocks are headed up that day; if futures are down ahead of market open, it could similarly be an indicator that negative investor sentiment will drive share prices down that day.
Also, you could browse Google News or CNN's homepage to get a feel for national sentiment... are people more fearful today? Or less? Is there some national crisis looming that could negatively impact investor sentiment?
No guarantee you will guess accurately, but gauging consumer and investor mood ahead of the stock market's open is ONE (of many) ways to improve your odds, in my experience anyway.
