I don't like offers for secured credit cards. With a secured credit card account, your card is linked to a savings account or other type of account at the bank - and they can claim the money in your account if you don't pay your bill on time.
You should not have to get one of these. It's dumb to essentially have a "security deposit" on your credit card.
The vast majority of cards are known as unsecured credit cards, meaning the bank or card issuer gives you credit without "securing" it with a deposit of some kind. This is why you can apply for a new card online in a few minutes, without providing your bank account information and routing numbers.
I have never signed up for a secured credit card offer and never will. Although obviously inferior, these cards are popular among folks with truly atrocious credit -- those with past bankruptcy history, etc. -- and a secured card is the only kind of card they can get from a bank, aside from maybe a regular old debit card tied to a checking acct.
