The Motley Fool has its list of 5 stocks under $10, which is interesting, but I doubt seriously the fundamental strength or value of some of these companies... so although they are all worth checking out and considering, I wouldn't consider any of them a 2010 dream pick or "guaranteed" win.
Here they are:
Sirius XM Radio (SIRI) - I've been burned on this one before. I still think that Sirius/XM provides a great product, superior to terrestrial radio, but that its costs are intrinsically too high. Satellites, producers, show budgets, Howard Stern -- all of these things cost money, and they are competing against the streaming and download music industry, which has virtually no overhead, and often operates in a sphere of questionable legality.
Bare Escentuals (BARE) - This one's a chick stock, in my opinion. It's a "mineral-based" cosmetics company; if you know your cosmetic creams, maybe you understand this industry well enough to decide if it is still a good value. Otherwise, I'd say pass.
TASER International (TASR) - Don't tase me, bro! What I like about TASER: if the recession continues to create social unrest, police departments & governments around the world are likely to keep buying these things -- it deals with an angry individual or violent mob, without resorting to lethal force. What I don't like: I feel like tasers are way overused by law enforcement, but we invest to make money, ultimately, not to wear our liberal conscience on our sleeve.
LivePerson (LPSN) - Online customer support and sales chat software. LivePerson's service seems good, but I feel like it would be easy for a competitor to jump into the fray and eventually dominate. It's just chat, after all, right? That 17 year old kid who created ChatRoulette could probably build a LivePerson killer in his spare time, with his hands tied behind his back.
TriQuint Semiconductor (TQNT) - Don't know enough about this company, or semiconductors in general, to comment. I was never a science geek in school.
My opinions only. Not professional investment advice or analysis. You can lose money in the stock market -- if you didn't already know this, you might be a moron.
