Y'all know I am not a fan of retail or store-branded credit cards. You can usually find a better deal with a regular credit card issued by a big bank or card company like American Express.
But is Best Buy's Reward Zone credit card the exception to the rule? How would I review this one?
First off, it is issued through HSBC Bank Nevada, N.A. Secondly, I don't like the fact that the terms, rates and conditions are not revealed at all until you've entered the initial information about yourself into their online application form. That sucks.
It is a MasterCard, which is good, because VISA and MasterCard are typically the most widely accepted credit card formats (American Express a bit less so; Discover even less popular).
Your spending on this credit card can lead to reward certificates -- which can be redeemed for music, movies, electronics and other items at Best Buy.
Personally, I don't think the reward ratio (1 point for every $2 spent; more in certain categories such as dining and grocery purchases) is good enough to warrant getting this credit card.
As with most other store credit card, I would avoid this one. And if you're gonna buy a huge plasma TV screen at Best Buy, definitely put it on an American Express card so you can get automatic/free purchase protection on it.
