If you already use an American Express credit or charge card, you probably know about AmEx's rather generous purchase protection policy/plan... which is another great reason to use your credit card instead of cash on that next big purchase (aside from getting cash back or racking up air miles).
What does AmEx say about their purchase protection specifically? "Just use your Card and Purchase Protection protects eligible purchases against accidental damage or theft for up to 90 days from the date of purchase."
Awesome. Oh, and it is a WORLDWIDE policy for the company. So if you buy a laptop while you are in Great Britain, and then come back to the U.S. and some psycho accidentally pushes it off your table at Starbucks -- shattering it -- AmEx will likely come to the rescue and reimburse you so you can get a new, not damaged laptop to replace it.
Coverage is limited to $1,000 per claim, with a $50,000 limit per cardholder account each year. (But if they suspect you are abusing this privilege in any way, they will likely pull the purchase protection plan far before then... I would hope, at least.)
